Instead of our usual Fall black tie dinner, this year we decided to have a lunch in a castle. It was at Craigdarroch Castle in Victoria, on Saturday, November 24th.
Branch president Steve Cowan waits for guests to arrive, displaying a new jacket patch of his recently granted arms.
Brian Hutchison and Denis Ostercamp were the first guests to arrive and have settled in their seats.
Branch vice-president Tom Mercer arrives.
Almost everyone has now arrived.
The buffet table awaits the members.
After a satisfying lunch, Jerry Pash, a retired immigration judge, begins his talk on the Symbols of Canada.
After the talk, Judge Pash puts on his judge's robe to show members what an immigration judge looks like.
As a surprising finale, the judge starts to swear us all in as Canadian citizens! Wow! Actually, if the truth were to be told, it was a citizenship re-affirmation ceremony.
The next three photos show Steve presenting to Judge Pash a plaque depicting the badge as worn by immigration judges.
After the plaque presentation, a line quickly forms to have photos taken with the judge. Here we have two happy "new" Canadians displaying their certificates.
Here is a view of the front and west side of the castle. It almost makes one to expect a dragon to fly by at any time.
This is a shot from the east.
Here we see the porte cochère on the north side as well as the back door to the castle, sheltered by the porte cochère.
Stained glass is used throughout the castle.
Here is a view out of a window of one of the turrets, looking to the east.
