Like the last two years, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our 2023 Annual General Meeting was held through the teleconferencing services of Zoom (RHSC account), on April 1st, starting at 10 am.
We had a good turn-out of 17 members and guests, including the Chief Herald of Canada, Samy Khalid.
Branch president Steve Cowan opened the meeting and gave his annual report, summarizing the branch's activities for 2022, and gave a rough schedule for upcoming Blazons. He also summarized the Financial Report because Brian Hutchinson, our treasurer, could not make the meeting.
Next, Gary Mitchell took over to conduct the selection of the board for the coming year. Since there was only one nomination for each position, all positions were filled by acclamation. The new board is shown below:

After the board selection and conclusion of the AGM, Steve introduced our guest speaker, David Robert Wooten, the executive director of the American College of Heraldry. His topic was titled "The Devolution and Evolution of Heraldry in the United States". It was a very well done 35 minute presentation of how American attitudes to heraldry changed over the centuries, with speculations on its current direction.
After the lecture, David e-received a table shield from Steve in appreciation for his presentation. David was quite surprised and very pleased with the gift. (The table shield was later mailed out to him.)
